Aspens At Belwin

One of my favorite places in Minnesota was the Belwin Conservancy, dedicated to restoring the flora and fauna on land it managed. It included a bison herd. This is a stand of aspen trees I photographed on one of my visits. A fine art print of this photograph is available here.

A Blessing For The Ice Fish

During the current extreme heat in North Texas, I thought I would share a photo from a cooler time and place. Ice fishing on the St. Croix river in Minnesota, January 2012. Air temperature was -5° F when I took this photograph.

Sundog (The Rainbow Tree)

A sundog or parhelion is formed by ice crystals aligning vertically as they fall through the atmosphere in very cold weather. This was taken shortly after sunrise, with an ambient temperature of about -5 degrees F. I walked out on a jetty on the frozen St. Croix river and saw a sundog aligned with this tree.
